IMD (molding simultaneous decoration transcription system) is widely referred to as "Nissha IMD Type-TR" in the automotive industry.
On the other hand, "IML" (molding simultaneous decoration insert system) refers to two different varieties: "Nissha IMD Type-S" and "Nissha IMD Type-P".
The difference between Type-TR, Type-S, and Type-P is film thickness. Techniques and processes differ depending on the thickness of the film handled. In the case of Type-TR, a film pattern, etc. is transcribed onto a molded product during molding. However, in the cases of Type-S and Type-P, decorations are performed by molding films on which patterns, etc. have been printed.

Technology Highlights of Nissha IMD Type-S
Type-S is Nissha's unique system derived from IMD. A major difference is the thickness of film. The film thickness allows for higher drawability, while maintaining high-quality decoration and scratch-resistant hard-coat.

Technology Highlights of Nissha IMD Type-P
Type-P is a system which handles the thickest film in all processes derived from IMD. It is a process in which pre-decorated, pre-formed and pre-cut film is inserted into the mold. This is the most suitable process for the decoration of complex shapes with exceedingly high depth of draw. In addition, the acrylic top layer (matte finish also available) offers high durability and rich appearance.
