Nissha's Business Fields
The mainstay is IMD, which is used to decorate three-dimensional plastic products. This printing technology beautifully colors a variety of objects that surround us in everyday life.
Industrial Materials —Technology for adding expressive decorations—
What is IMD?
Plastic products such as mobile phones play many important roles in our lives. IMD is one of the techniques used to apply a variety of expressions to surfaces, such as colors, patterns, glazing and metallic textures.
IMD is used in the following ways
IMD has been used on a variety of products according to different eras, such as radio cassettes, headphone stereos, make-up containers and refrigerators. It is aimed at "plastic" products that seek a beautiful design. Currently, the technology is mostly used for mobile phones, smartphones, laptop computers, car interiors and electrical appliances.

IMD's unique mechanisms
IMD is a "printing" technology that allows images to be attached to three-dimensional plastic.
How are we able to attach images to something that isn't flat?

The image is printed onto a transparent film material in advance.
This is referred to as the "IMD foil".

Plastic products are formed inside molds. (This is called injection molding).
The IMD technique involves feeding the IMD foil inside this mold.

When plastic resin melted at a high temperature is injected into a mold which has had the IMD foil fed into it...

The image layer (ink layer) alone comes away from the IMD foil as a result of the heat and pressure inside the mold and is transferred to the plastic surface.
When the mold is opened, not only has the product's shape been formed but an IMD molded product with an image attached has been completed.
Strengths of IMD
That is because it has technology and support systems that can meet the needs of customers such as the following.
- Need to incorporate a delicate design into a product
- Need to make a lot of products at the same time, all with the same level of quality
- Need to minimize the impact on the global environment
Expanding the application areas
We are expanding the range of fields in which this technology can be applied. For example, we have expanded the materials it can be applied to, to include metals as well as plastics. But we will not solely focus on decorative technology; we will also continue to develop films that can offer a variety of special features to meet the needs of customers.
